Your amplifier is the voice of your instrument. A great guitar through a poor amp will sound mediocre; a modest guitar through a great amp can sound incredible. The amp is where your tone truly comes alive.
Tube vs solid-state vs modeling: Tube amps are prized for their warm, dynamic sound but are heavy and expensive. Solid-state amps are reliable and lightweight but lack tube dynamics. Modeling amps digitally emulate multiple classic amps — incredibly versatile for home practice and recording.
Wattage should match your use case. For home practice, 1-15 watts is plenty. For rehearsals with a drummer, 15-30 watts. For gigging, 30-50 watts. For large stages, 50-100 watts. Remember: a 100W amp is only about twice as loud as a 10W amp.
Speaker size shapes your sound. 1x12" is the most versatile — balanced across all frequencies, portable, and works for nearly every genre. 2x12" and 4x12" cabinets produce bigger low-end and more projection — ideal for rock and metal but heavy to transport.
